A dashboard is a way to organize complex information into a format that’s easy to read or present. The term originates from the dashboard of a car where drivers can monitor the major functions at a glance.
At my company, we compile financial business indicators into single page dashboards to share the state of the business with senior management. Our dashboards provide an overview of 5-7 indicators, and highlight our performance against them using colors: green means we’re exceeding expectations, yellow means we’re meeting expectations and red means we’re below expectations.
