An acronym for Close of Business, COB is a deadline. Originating from a typical workday schedule of 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, COB means an assignment is due by 5:00pm. Now that a workday typically runs later than 5, people often use EOD, End of Day, rather than COB. If your manager or professor gives you an assignment that’s due by EOD, you should submit it before you go to bed for the night.
