To conduct a deep dive means to perform an extensive analysis of a subject or problem. Entry-level MBAs spend a lot of time completing deep dives of competitors, industries and potential acquisitions.

If your boss says, “I want you to do a deep dive on Company X today, and give me your opinion on whether or not we can make a good return on investment if we buy it,” then you know you’re probably in for a long night of pulling data and projecting outcomes.
