American Cultural Ideals Unfold on Independence Day

Brandon and I are going to have to celebrate Independence Day a little early this year. My cousin, Sarah, is getting married on the actual day, but I can’t let my favorite holiday pass by without a proper celebration.

July 4th marks the day that Americans declared independence from Britain. Independence Day embodies the strongest American cultural values: freedom, autonomy, social equality, and control over personal destiny.

I’ve been studying culture for years now, and these values continue to be among my favorite American themes. I love that Americans believe if you work hard enough, anything is possible. It’s fascinating to watch these ideals unfold into new ways of working and living.

Remember these ideals when you’re interacting with Americans during your MBA process. Understanding culture helps you establish rapport, communicate better, and ultimately succeed in the global marketplace.
