Under the weather is a polite way of saying you are ill or sick. Businesspeople most often use the term to explain why they must miss a meeting or an entire day of work. For example, “Unfortunately, I will be unable to attend today’s briefing because I am under the weather.”

I was under the weather last week, down with the flu, and am so happy to be back to work this week!
